About the Book:
A sharp, sexy, and tantalizing novel that weaves together art, architecture, Kherson, Belgium, sensuality, the murder of a lover, and a mysterious Rembrandt painting that continues to intrigue art historians. There has never been a book like this in Ukrainian literature. The heroine is both inspiring and shocking, and you can't help but fall in love with her. On the verge of turning fifty, she stands over her lover’s dead body, leaving us to wonder: did she kill him, or was it someone else? She’s pursued by the Belgian police, even as she chases them. As she wanders through Belgium, her memories return to her native Kherson. She indulges freely in both culinary and sensual pleasures, unashamed. Like so many Ukrainian women, she’s learned what it means to lose, yet she also understands the value of freedom—and that those who do wrong must not go unpunished.
About the Author:
Iryna Belan was born in Kherson. She attended art school and graduated from a physics and mathematics program at a secondary school. She later enrolled at Kherson State University, Faculty of Foreign Languages. Professionally, she is a teacher of English and German and worked in this field before becoming a translator. After studying at the British Higher School of Art and Design, she established herself as an interior designer, and later, as a journalist. Today, Iryna writes for Ukrainian and Azerbaijani magazines. She is well-versed in art, design, fashion, and courage—perhaps even knowing a little more than most. As Iryna herself says, “I realize now that all my sharp career turns were necessary to become a writer.” She is currently working on the sequel to GRAPPIG. KUMEDNO.

Reviews
